Hey there,

a short issue this time, as there are a few imminent events you might wanna know about. Like so:

Events

Sustainable Leadership Deep Dive 2022 May 18th

“an opportunity for professionals to increase their knowledge at the intersection of earth-saving design practices and the value-driven role design plays in strategic decision-making and successful business outcomes”. It’s from the Industrial Design Society but plenty applicable for UX folks, probably.

“Building Positive Digital Futures” Responsible Tech Summit: Remote / NYC: May 20th

“The Responsible Tech Summit on May 20th seeks to unite a diverse range of stakeholders to build on each other’s work and co-create a tech future aligned with the public interest.”

UX Connect Aarhus 2022

Friend-of-SustainableUX Tim Frick presenting.

EcofriendlyWeb Accreditation?

I haven’t dug into this much, and am curious how much their accreditation process costs - and what methodology they use. The advisory board doesn’t have many web folk, but it does have a lot of FinTech and Sustainability folk. tbh, I’m just a teensy bit skeptical of green badges and the like. But I’ll dig a little deeper.

SustainableWebDesign.org in the news

“It’s Time for the Internet to Become More Sustainable, Says New Coalition”. A handy reminder to check out SustainableWebDesign, which looks like it has been updated recently.

Behavior Change Design for Sustainable Development: recorded talk

Plugging this because it was presented by former colleagues of mine, but they know their behavior change onions, therefore worth a listen.

Not serious

This City Pledges to be Carbon Neutral by the time it is too late

Dark laughs from McSweeny’s

Optimism & tech-centric “save the world” game from the FT

I scored 1.58c, and billions didn’t die. Interesting for the solutions they include and the ones they leave out.

Other newsletters to follow

Curiously Green from WholeGrain

Sample coverage:

  • Volkswagen Canada goes offline for Earth Day [pffffffft]

  • Royal Mint making money out of e-waste

  • Light technology to lighten data centers' carbon footprint

Our World in Data

The End of Deforestation, Global Electricity use, IPCC scenarios mapped
